POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the management of more than one defined area of organized patient care services. Allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective and compassionate patient care. Provides clinical and administrative leadership and expertise. Facilitates an atmosphere of participative management and the development of collegial relationships. Visible, accessible and committed to communicating effectively with staff. Promotes the profession of nursing and professional practice. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Will mentor and support new staff and facilitate communication, training and assisting in the advancement of their clinical practice and organizational initiatives. Develop departmental education opportunities and participate in the on-going growth and maintenance of the excellent customer services provided to all that ECHN serves. Responsible for organizing and tracking annual mandatory education for all areas supervised. Participates in the operational duties of the department, such as but not limited to, quality improvement and policy and procedure maintenance. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor#s Degree or current enrollment in such program and a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Must have and maintain a current license in the State of Connecticut. Maintains clinical and managerial competency required for area of assignment including Basic Cardiac Life Support and ACLS certification. EXPERIENCE: Must have at least five (5) years of nursing experience in an acute care setting with demonstrated leadership potential. COMPETENCIES: Must be proficient in cardiac monitoring, administration of conscious sedation and be IV competent. Must have strong verbal and written English communication skills in order to interface with staff and instruct patients. A demonstrated ability to lead others and take on additional job responsibilities to ensure the departments function well under their direction and must be able to work well with referring physicians, other departments and staff. The incumbent must meet the ECHN age specific knowledge/skill requirement and complete all ECHN assigned training and development in the time frames prescribed by the organization. Coordinates and implements orientation of all staff.# Collaborates with department of nursing education educators to develop individualized orientation programs and monitors orientee#s progress. Ensures accurate completion of orientation paperwork. Utilizes evidence-based practice in clinical procedures, administrative policies and educational materials for patients, staff and others. Attends Vascular Access Committee meetings and other committees as deemed necessary. Collaborates with Human Resources and other stakeholders in performing an annual review of annual mandatory education. Participates and involves the nursing staff in evaluative research activities. Fosters a climate conducive to educational experiences for nursing and other students. Assesses patient placement and care needs from a global hospital perspective, allocating resources, accordingly, promoting efficient patient throughput. Promotes physician satisfaction by maintaining good rapport and cooperative working relations with the Medical Staff.
