Summary:
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist Lead is responsible for coordinating and performing MRI Scans for diagnostic purposes and for providing patient services using applicable imaging modalities. This position is also responsible to maintain the equipment QA as recommended by manufacture. Assists the Manager with planning, organizing, staffing, supplying and supervising area in Radiology as directed. Must always maintain a posture of leadership, cooperation in interacting with peers, staff, visitors, patients and physicians.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the non-invasive imaging techniques that have superior soft tissue contrasts and potential physiological and functional applications. As MRI does not expose the body to radiation, it has become a mainstay of non-invasive diagnostic radiology modality since the 1980s. MRI uses a very powerful magnetic field, rapidly changing magnetic fields, radio waves, and a computer to obtain detailed images. However, MRI is not without risks. As clinical demand for MRI has increased, healthcare professionals have to be trained in MRI safety to protect patients from the potential risks of MRI.
Based off of the patient and associate risk it would be beneficial to have a lead in this specialized area. The MRI lead would serve the inpatient hospital as well as the outpatient imaging center to not only preform daily functions but assist in process improvement, maintaining regulatory compliance, safety initiatives, promote growth of new services, and patient throughput.
CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels (CSRH-NB), nestled in the heart of downtown New Braunfels, is a full-service, 94-private bed facility that continues to expand to meet the needs of New Braunfels’ strong population growth. Innovative equipment and procedures are utilized, including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, rehabilitation, a renovated birthing center, including 24/7 neonatal coverage, emergency care, wound care/hyperbaric center, 3D mammography, and comprehensive heart care, from diagnostics to open-heart surgery.
Responsibilities:
• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. • Performs a variety of diagnostic procedures some of a more complex nature, utilizing state of the art computerized MRI diagnostic imaging equipment. • Demonstrates competency with respect to the use of high speed, pressurized injection equipment. • Evaluates patient for clinical indications, possible sedation, possible history of IV contrast allergies, on or off-site bowel preparation, and if needed coordinates life support via the Respiratory Care Department and Nursing on the unit. • Assists Radiologist in invasive and biopsy type procedures using MRI equipment to pinpoint anatomical locations. • Upon completion of procedures, the technologist programs the computer to assure completion of exam and all scan data is correctly stored on PACS for future reference. • Coordinates and prioritizes procedures during the workday to maintain a high level of patient care and continuity. • Ensures that exam rooms are neat, clean, and adequately stocked prior to exams being performed and acts to ensure compliance with Infection control standards. • Ensures all charges are correctly coded and entered in the billing system. • Demonstrates and maintains competence with all age specific groups to ensure proper completion of studies. • Appropriately adapts assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, age specific and other developmental needs of each patient served. • Takes personal responsibility to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and standards as promulgated by State and Federal agencies, the hospital and other regulatory entities. • Performs all duties in a manner that protects the confidentiality of patients and does not solicit or disclose any confidential information unless it is necessary in the performance of assigned job duties. • Demonstrates adherence to the Core values of Christus Health• Assist Radiology Manager/Director in payroll. • Performs other duties as assigned.
