Who we are…..
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is within Ascension St. Vincent Hospital on West 86th St. This facility is a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center and is a certified Stroke Center of Excellence. The acute care hospital is also attached to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
We provide post-surgical and anesthesia care to both outpatients and inpatients following a variety of surgeries and procedures. Care is provided for the adult patient population but does not exclude care for pediatric patients when necessary. We care for patients with a variety of acuity levels and age ranges. including critical care patients, as we are the backup critical care area when any of the three adult critical care units are not able to receive their patients directly. We care for post-surgical pediatric patients after hours, and on the weekends. We are committed to providing an excellent surgical experience, thereby allowing for an easier and less stressful stay for patients and their caregivers.
As an RN in the area, you will provide direct nursing care and support for post-operative patients. This Phase I recovery phase of the surgical experience extends from the time the patient is transferred out of the operating room, until they successfully meet discharge criteria. At that point, patients either proceed to an Inpatient status or Phase II recovery where they are discharged home. Expectations are that careful assessments and immediate interventions are provided while assisting patients to recover quickly, safely, and as comfortably as possible.
