We are looking for a
Database Administrator (AWS Focus) with a strong foundation in
AWS services and DevOps practices. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in database management, performance optimization, and cloud-based automation. This role emphasizes not only traditional database administration skills but also the ability to implement modern observability and automation practices.Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, fine-tune, and scale AWS RDS instances, particularly focusing on Aurora MySQL, to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability.
- Utilize AWS Athena for advanced data querying capabilities, enhancing data retrieval and analytics processes.
- Manage AWS RedShift clusters, emphasizing on performance tuning, storage optimization, and efficient query processing for our data warehousing needs.
- Apply DevOps methodologies across database operations, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing, to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Create and manage cloud automation scripts and templates using Terraform or CloudFormation for the efficient provisioning and management of AWS resources.
- Develop UNIX shell scripts to automate database maintenance tasks, backups, and monitoring, ensuring high reliability and performance.
- Program and maintain applications or scripts using Go, Java, and Python, showing a strong ability to adapt to and learn new programming languages as needed.
- Implement Jenkins for CI/CD automation, ensuring smooth and consistent database updates and deployments.
- Manage database schema changes with Liquibase, facilitating seamless transitions and minimizing operational disruptions.
- Execute data migration projects accurately, maintaining data integrity and minimizing impact on production systems.
- Develop and implement global replication strategies to support high availability, disaster recovery, and distributed data access.
- Perform rigorous performance tuning and monitoring of database systems to identify and mitigate bottlenecks, ensuring maximum efficiency.
- Establish comprehensive observability frameworks for real-time monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting of database environments, improving system transparency and proactive issue management.
- Proficiency in SQL and Query Optimization
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in managing AWS RDS, with a particular emphasis on Aurora MySQL, AWS Athena, and AWS RedShift, including a focus on performance tuning and monitoring
- Understanding of relational database theory
- Experience with NoSQL tools like DynamoDB, Mongo, Redis, Cassandra is a plus
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles and experience with cloud automation tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Proficiency in UNIX shell scripting, with solid programming skills in Go, Java, and Python, demonstrating the flexibility to learn new languages.
- Experience with Jenkins CI/CD automation and Liquibase for database change management.
- Demonstrated capability in data migration and global replication strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on optimizing database operations for scalability, performance, and reliability.
- Effective communication skills, able to collaborate across teams and communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
