The Opportunity
The position of Analytical Instrument Maintenance Specialist is within our Toxicology Division located in Richmond, VA. This role ensures operation and limits down time in a fast-paced production laboratory by maintaining analytical instrumentation to include, but not limited to, LCMS, GCMS, Automated Liquid Handlers, Automated 96 well plate washers, and Chemistry Analyzers. This position gives qualified candidates the chance to be an essential component of an operation that could not function without them.
What You’ll Work On
Maintains analytical instrumentation by completing preventive maintenance schedules; conducting tests; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions; calling for service; maintaining equipment inventories.
Maintains analytical instrumentation supplies inventory by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
Maintain documentation on new equipment, inspections, and instrument repairs and failures.
First Review support.
Conducts a variety of complex tests, measures devices, and calculates data to verify adherence to ensure the instrument functions within provided specifications.
Perform chemical solution preparation for instrument operation and maintenance.
Expected to be knowledgeable about the assembly of component parts, sub-assemblies or completed units, including electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical and structural assembly for products and instruments.
Communicates with production, R&D, QC, and other supervisors and managers to determine, execute, and document unplanned instrument maintenance tasks.
Work with external vendors to schedule preventative maintenance and in-depth repairs.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
Required Qualification
A BS or BA in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or applicable life science degree
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience working on analytical instrumentation such as GCMS, HPLC and/or LCMS in a laboratory setting
Must be self-disciplined, able to work with minimal supervision and manage time efficiently
Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures
Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation
Advanced ability to understand GCMS and LCMSMS Data Review and R&D requirements for SAMHSA, CAP-FDT, and other relevant regulatory bodies
Advanced ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems
Advanced ability to communicate with Supervisory staff and to maintain written records of said communication
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
May be required to work varying shifts or weekends to perform the Essential Functions
Preferred Qualification
Previous experience with data processing software associated with GC/MS and LC-MS/MS, ChemStation, Analyst, and MultiQuant
Ability to process and interpret chromatographic data as it relates to instrument and method related troubleshooting
Experience in method development

The base pay for this position is $22.15 – $44.25 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
