WHAT YOU’LL DO
This role involves providing technical expertise and leadership to develop and implement packaging initiatives at Abbott Nutrition. The responsibilities include applying advanced methods and techniques to design and execute new packaging materials and structures. These programs cover everything from creating new packaging concepts to optimizing existing packaging for nutritional products. Effective collaboration across divisional and regional boundaries is crucial for success. Additionally, this position supports lab testing equipment, validations, and qualifications.
This position functionally resides in the Global Packaging Operations group, reporting directly to the Manager Packaging Technical Services. Strong and intimate ties will exist between this role and the Package Innovation and Core Technology group.
Core Job Responsibilities:
- Identification and development of new packaging structures from concept through commercialization.
- Identify and develop new packaging test methods and execute validation protocols.
- Conduct packaging test method transfer and implement at Abbott Nutrition manufacturing sites.
- Identify and implement cost-optimized opportunities with existing packaging.
- Provide technical expertise on a wide range of packaging issues.
- Provide detailed technical input and support to A&E organizations employed on major capital projects.
- Provide key engineering support in the construction, commissioning, and start-up of new facilities and equipment.
- Support the development and implementation of validation processes for laboratory equipment and test methods in the packaging lab, including validating existing package testing equipment and corresponding test methods according to AN validation policy for proper transfer to AN site.
- Facilitate failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) discussions for open change requests.
- Work with the packaging operations SME to periodically review test methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) and make necessary updates.
- Support management of the packaging lab budget, including issuing purchase orders for new equipment and overseeing preventative maintenance of existing equipment.
- Assist in organizing all essential documentation for packaging lab audits.
- Support the expansion group in the development of the project scope, design, and cost estimates for global expansion programs.
- Where necessary, manage capital & and non-capital projects as required.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging, Engineering, or related technical field and/or 3+ years of related technical experience.
- Thorough technical knowledge of a wide range of packaging materials, structures, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in packaging test equipment and packaging software programs (ie. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cape Pack)
- Experience in Laboratory equipment validation and Test Method Verification
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple global projects.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.

- >20% travel, includes domestic and international travel.
The base pay for this position is $57,300.00 – $114,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
