The Opportunity
This Senior Specialist – Urgent Care position covers the Western US and ideally will be based from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Las Vegas or Phoenix. Estimated 50% overnight travel.
The role will assume regional urgent care market responsibilities, meeting and exceeding assigned territory sales plans for targeted products by leveraging Abbott Rapid Diagnostic’s value proposition. The Senior Specialist – Urgent Care will be responsible to analyze, profile, and develop strategic relationships with targeted urgent care accounts while partnering with distribution channel partners and internal Abbott divisions to prioritize and qualify customers in order to penetrate and close new business opportunities to achieve the financial goals for the business.
The primary responsibility of the Senior Specialist – Urgent Care is to enable market share growth of assigned products within defined top urgent care accounts. The Senior Specialist– Urgent Care is an expert in the selling process and will serve as the Abbott Rapid Diagnostic resource for urgent care strategy for distributors and customers, technical service, sales organization(s), marketing and corporate accounts. The Senior Specialist – Urgent Care will identify additional Abbott products for multiple Abbott Rapid Diagnostic business units. Product focus likely to be adapted and expanded.
What You’ll Work On
- Create and manage a sales plan for targeted products by analyzing territory for new business opportunities through development and implementation of creative and well-defined sales and marketing strategies to achieve/exceed sales goals and increase market penetration. Timely and frequent modifications may be required as new products and market opportunities emerge and evolve.
- Conduct sales presentations from a consultative sales approach and progress the opportunity through the sales process using Salesforce.com and when necessary actively seeks out other key stake holders and thought leaders to assist in the sales process to ensure the highest potential of closing the business.
- Support distribution partners in the sale of products, including training, sales meetings, technical expertise, and marketing support of the Abbott Rapid Diagnostic products in the urgent care market to increase market share and penetration.
- Support Infectious Disease Account Managers sales activities and revenue growth in the urgent care market
- Develop end user customer relationships at the executive level and gain contractual commitment from the assigned urgent care accounts to secure business and convert competitive business.
- Develop key opinion leaders that will serve as reference sites, technical experts, and product advocates on behalf of current and new products.
- Represent Abbott at local and national urgent care conferences, distributor meetings, and industry events.
- Analyze competitors in the market and capture market intelligence to capitalize on current market conditions.
- Introduction and sales of novel products, services and software solutions across other Abbott divisions and companies into the urgent care market.
- Understanding of state and federal regulations including reimbursement that impact testing in the urgent care market.
- Act as a team member providing input on strategy, customer requirements and competitive activity.
- Coordinate involvement with customer base for other Abbott resources including operations, regulatory affairs, and product development teams.
- Develop and submit sales reports, expense reports and forecasts and other required documents or reports as requested while adhering to all corporate guidelines. Must actively participate in utilizing Salesforce.com (CRM) daily.
- Timely response to customer needs (e.g., return voicemail messages daily, follow up on requests, and coordinate with internal resources).
- Must be able to travel nationally across the U.S. at least 70% of the time with overnight travel as necessary to complete business requirements.
- Follow standard Technical Services procedures for documenting, identifying, and reporting to Abbott Technical Service any customer product complaints and ensure customer satisfaction of resolution.
Required qualifications:
- BA/BS in sales, marketing, business management or related coursework.
- Additional training in laboratory product sales and the diagnostics industry.
Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in price – value contract negotiations.
- Thorough understanding of financial dynamics (pricing, profitability, contract management).
- Ability and flexibility to travel and work with customers throughout the assigned geographical territory as dictated. Estimated 50% overnight travel.
- Knowledge of sales process for tangible products, including cold calling.
- Ability to rapidly adapt to fluid product line changes.
- Ability to creatively solve problems and decision making under uncertainty
- Excellent computer skills related to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and CRM tools
- Proven ability to manage a complex sale and work in a team environment

The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 – $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
